Dining with Diabetes

Free Dining with Diabetes Classese and LeBonheur Health Screenings offered in January 2008 - Deadline to register is December 21, 2007.
The UT Extension Service, West TN Regional Health Department, Baptist Memorial Hospital and LeBonheur will be offering Free Dining with Diabetes Classes and Helath Screenings for Diabetics in January 2008. UT Extension/Obion County has been awarded a Delta Grant through LeBonheur to provide free pre and post health screenings in corrdination with 4 Dining with Diabetes classes. The classes are open to adult diabetics, their family members and or caretakers. Only diabetics will participate in health care scrrenings.
If your participate in Dining with Diabetes we ask that diabetics get screened on January 8 and March 25 and come to all 4 classes if possible. Dates and locations are listed below. This free LeBonheur research study will determine how Dining with Diabetes classes have made a difference in your diabetes management and overall health. You will be given a copy of test results.
Glenda Nanney, West TN Regional Health Departments''''''''s Registered Dietician will teach up to date information on diabetic nurtition, meal planning and diabetes complications. Baptist Memorial Hospital''''''''s Dietary Department staff will prepare and serve two diabetic dishes to sample each night of Dining with Diabetes classes.
Diabetic participants are requested to take part in two free pre and post Health Screenings. Health screenings will be conducted by LeBonheur Health Care lab professionals. LeBonheur Health care will take screenings on weight, height, blood pressure, total cholesterol(HDL, LDL, Triglycerides) and glucose. They ask that you fast 4 hours before screenings on january 8 and March 25.
Please register by calling Benita Giffin, UT Extension Agent at 885-3742 by December 21. Please leave your name, address and phone number.
You may do your health screenings any time, in the time slots offered. On January 8, screenings are set up so that you can go to the Obion County Library for your free health screening and then go to the Baptist Memorial Hospital cafeteria for the Dining with Diabetes class.

Master Your Body

The Master Your Body Exercise program will be offered again before Christmas to anyone interested! Andy Core, exercise physiologist, Noel Tugwell, physical therapist and Ty Tims, Certified medical exercise and performance enhancement specialist have developed this award winning exercise program. Benita Giffin, Obion County Extension Agent and certified Master Your Body trainer will teach 4 weeks - 8 sessions of Master Your Body exercise classes before Christmas. Tone your body withourt useing exercise equipment. Master Your Body is fun and provides safe strength and balance training using body weight exercises. Five stations and 10 exercises use your body, the floor, and gravity for resistance. You will fell your body change in 24 hours! I have participants that have lost 2 inches on their waist in just 4 sessions!
If you want to become stronger and start feeling better doing everyday movements, like climbing out of bed, getting in and out of the car, walking up stairs, picking up anything, this class is for you. If you can sit on the floor and get up off the floor without assistance, you qualify as a participant. These calsses requre no special clothes, however, wearing walking tennis shoes are best suited for the class. MYB allows you to progress at your own pace. You can do Master Your Body wearing a suit, in a hotel room or anywhere you have a 5'' by 5'' space. The Master Your Body program and manual is copyrighted. Only certified teachers may offer MYB classes. You will receive a MYB manual the first day of class.
Again, classers will be held 8 times at the Obion County Library Confernce Room from 3;45 to 4:30 p.m. Clasess will begin on time. If you are running late, just come on in and pick up where we are.
Dates include: November 15, 20, 27, 29, and December 3, 6, 11, 14.
Be sure and check your calendar, classes will be held on various days of the week due to location availability. Eight sessions for $24. Fee is non-refundable. Please pay for class before November 15 at the Obion County Extension office in Union City. Please make check payable to UT.
